ADL-615A Big and Small

Airborne Data Loader 615A (ADL-615A)

One of the biggest challenges facing aircraft operators is keeping software intensive aircraft up to date with the many and ever larger databases and operational software needed by today’s avionics. The ADL-615A Airborne Data Loader helps the operator meet this challenge by providing higher capacity media, internal mass storage and high speed ARINC 615A loading over Ethernet network interfaces.

The ADL-615A is form, fit, function interchangeable with existing ARINC 615 data loaders, preserving ARINC 615 loading compatibility. Airplane loading is performed from the internal mass storage or from floppy disks. Loading from internal mass storage eliminates the need to eject and load disks in sequence, reducing loading errors and load time. For those operators who want to eliminate floppy disks completely, a reduced height version is available with only USB memory stick.

Modern airplanes now have ARINC 615A as well as ARINC 615 loadable avionics. The ADL-615A loads using both protocols, eliminating the need for separate loaders. Optional ARINC 615A loading software will be available for the ADL-615A in 2008.

The ADL-615A’s 256MB of internal mass storage has enough capacity to store up to 180 floppy disks worth of databases and operational software, eliminating the need to find and carry floppy disks onto the aircraft. The internal mass storage is loaded from a commercially available USB memory stick, which has been loaded with the software parts from a commercial PC running the supplied ADL USB Stick Creator (AUSC) application. To ensure security of the internal mass storage, the ADL-165A will only transfer data from a USB memory stick loaded using the AUSC application.

The ADL-615A user interface makes tracking load progress and troubleshooting even easier with a 3.5” LCD display, four backlit line-select keys and three status indicators.
